# How to choose the right property valuer in the Netherlands

There is no single best valuer for every situation. Use these practical criteria to find a suitable valuer or valuation company.

## What does ‘best’ mean?

The best valuer is the professional who fits your purpose, property type, location and the requirements of the party receiving the report. A fast or cheap option is not automatically suitable if a lender has additional conditions.

## Five questions to ask

1. **What is the valuation for?** A mortgage, sale, inheritance or another purpose may require a different report. Start with [the main valuation purposes](/en/valuation-purposes/).
2. **Who must accept the report?** Ask your mortgage adviser or lender which conditions apply. A report can be well prepared and still fail to meet the recipient’s requirements.
3. **Does the valuer understand your property and area?** Consider property type, local market, leasehold, renting, renovation or unusual features.
4. **What is included in the price and schedule?** Ask about the inspection, documents, additional work, total cost and expected delivery. See [valuation costs](/en/property-valuation-costs/).
5. **Is the process transparent?** You should be able to see who carries out the assignment, what information is needed and how questions are handled.
